Wahdat News (Skardu) An important and joint session of Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen Gilgit-Baltisan and Imamia Students Organization Baltistan division was held to discuss the current deteriorating situation of Gilgit-Baltistan. Topics of ban and illegal restrictions on commemorating ‘Day of Imam Hussain a.s.’, arrest of students over a crime of organizing ‘Day of Imam Hussain a.s.’, registration of cases under terrorism acts against hundreds of students, ban on religious gatherings in educational institutions of Gilgit-Baltistan and continued terrorism across the country were discussed in the session.
Head of Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen Gilgit-Baltistan Agha Ali Rizvi and president of Imamia Students Organization Baltistan division Syed Athar Moosvi chaired the session, while central secretary education ISO Pakistan Yawar Abbas also attended the session. Serious reservations were expressed over the provincial government’s attempts of snatching religious freedom. Leaders termed this act as absolute violation of constitution of Pakistan.
It has been said in the session that provincial government is trying to spread sectarianism in the region and people have to foil this attempt by their unity. Personality of Imam Hussain a.s. is not only respectful in Islam but also for other religions of the world. Government of Gilgit-Baltistan is trying to portray Imam Hussain a.s. as a leader of one sect which clearly shows its mentality. Government is trying to make ‘Day of Imam Hussain a.s.’ a disputed issue which public will not let to succeed. We reject the ban on religious ceremonies in education institutes in Gilgit-Baltistan while there is no such ban in other parts of Pakistan.
Central leader of ISO Pakistan said in the session that imposition of ban on Day of Imam Hussain a.s. in Gilgit-Baltistan is against the constitution of Pakistan. In this regard, ISO is standing with the people of GB and ISO Pakistan is ready to challenge this act of provincial government in the entire country.
Presiding the session, Head of MWM Gilgit-Baltistan Agha Ali Rizvi said that protests have been started against the tyrant acts of government in Baltistan. We will stage protest in Skardu, Khurmang, Shiggar, Rondhu and Ghanchey. We will continue to stage protest until government restore the religious freedom of people and accept other demands.
Agha Ali Rizvi said that ban on ‘Day of Imam Hussain a.s.’ is an attack by provincial government on creed which should be condemned as much as possible. Arrest of students and registration of cases under terrorism acts over a crime of organizing ‘Day of Imam Hussain a.s.’ is a serious mistake of provincial government and an illegal step.
